Calichi Design Group was honored to receive the ENR Best Project Award in fall 2022 for work on the Fremont Union High School Transformation — recognized in the K-12 Education category for Northern California.
We were privileged to work with a passionate team on this transformative project for the Oakland Unified School District. The team included LCA Architects, Quattrocchi Kwok Architects, Cahill and Focon Construction, KPW Structural Engineering, Guttman & Blaevoet, Keller Mitchell, and EDesignC.
The project included a 40,000 square foot modernization of a 120-year-old school building, alongside 45,000 square feet of new construction that encompassed new classrooms, a gymnasium, football stadium, and wellness center.
Calichi's civil engineering challenges included routing storm drains through narrow spaces between existing buildings, site utility coordination across the active campus, and improving energy efficiency across the full campus footprint.
